The Real Viktor Navorski

Remember Viktor Navorski? Tom Hanks lovable innocent character from The Terminal movie, where he stays for a couple of months stranded in the International Terminal in New York City... Now in Mexico we have our own real life Viktor Navorski... His name? Hiroshi Nohara.

This Japanese fellow has been in the Mexico City airport for around 80 days now, and hasnt expressed interest in leaving. He says he is happy there, he has been treated very well by the Mexican authorities and he has chosen a table in the middle of the food court as his home and just sits there doing nothing. He eats hamburgers and coffee, although there is a wide variety of food there, he says he loves eating burgers.

Some recent developments have indicated that he left his country looking for his girlfriend and is still looking for her, as they parted ways a while ago and she left to Brazil... he has commented that his intentions were to just make a layover in Mexico to later go to Brazil, but since he lost his passport he had to get a replacement from the Japanese Consulate and had to wait a long time for it, so he decided to stay.

Mexican authorities have stated that they cannot deport this character, for his papers are in order and he hasnt committed any crime whatsoever, his consulate have ordered him not to bother passengers, and clean up a bit, for he looks like a homeless person, for he is a homeless guy, except if you count The Terminal as a home...

I wonder how much time is Mr. Naroshi spending in our country... maybe he is waiting for Catherine Zeta Jones to show up, maybe its just his way of becoming famous, maybe its a publicity stunt... but for now he is a celebrity in the Mexico City airport... what an interesting achievement... become a celebrity for doing absolutely nothing.
