The BEST Network Programming

I recently made an investigation to see which is the Network with the best programming on television, and although FOX has major hits like 24, Family Guy and the Simpsons, NBC has great ones like 30 Rock, SNL, The Office, Football Night in America and Chuck and ABC has Lost and Desperate Housewives, the definitive winner and a surprising one at that was CBS.
Remember, this is all my opinion. CBS has done a really interesting comeback as the best network on television with excellent drama and comedy shows. Such shows include: Two and a Half Men (which right now is the most watched sitcom) followed by The Big Bang Theory which is in second place in the ratings. If that wasnt enough, How I met your mother comes in as one of the best programs ive seen in recent years on TV, it kind of makes you remember FRIENDS... I usually tell people that HIMYM is like the Friends of this decade. Some other great CBS comedy hits include Gary Unmarried, Rules of Engagement and the recent hit Worst Week.
Now in the Drama part, they also have amazing shows, including the whole CSI: Crime Scene Investigation series, which now has 2 or 3 more versions including New York and Miami. The missing persons hit drama Without a Trace, and in the News reporting department they also have 60 Minutes, which is also one of the most watched shows in the nation.
To top it off, they have been hosting the Price is Right for over 30 years, Late Show with David Letterman and the Late Late Show, and they also have hit shows such as Survivor and Big Brother renewing constantly, so IMO CBS is winning the race against the other networks, it doesnt have a huge lead, but it is winning right now...

Family Guy vs The Simpsons

This is the typical debate between people who watch cartoons on FOX... who is better? The Simpsons or Family Guy? its hard to decide sometimes, because both of them have their own cool stuff, but many people usually argue that Family Guy is a cheap knock off of the Simpsons... that may be true, maybe not, maybe its just a way to pay tribute to the mother of all cartoon parodies...
Anyways, I was just reading an article on Set McFarlane on Fast Company, and the article states that "Family Guy, has surpassed The Simpsons, as the most-popular animated show on TV. Among males 18 to 34, often cited as the most desirable demographic in advertising, Family Guy is the highest-rated scripted program in all of television..." so even if its a cheap knock off it has still achieved what many thought wasnt possible... beating The Simpsons as the best cartoon of FOX.
I personally prefer Family Guy than the Simpsons, and in no way do I consider it a copy, I do think that they based some of their characters from the Simpsons, but cmon, lets face it, they are both parodies of American Life, and there is no way you can make the typical american, without him being compared to Homer Simpson... however, they did try to mix it up a bit with the main character in American Dad by doing an action packed dad from the CIA, but in the end, he is just as stupid as Homer or Peter... Plus I dont think that Chris can be compared in any way to Bart Simpson, and the same is to be said in the Stewie vs Maggie area... Lisa vs Meg or Marge vs Lois could be some sort of copy, but besides that I think, both of them have really original characters, each funny in its own way....
I do not think one is better than the other one, I think that its a generational issue, what does this mean, precisely what it sounds like, it all depends on which generation is the public audience... the same debate happened with Seinfeld vs Friends, or if you want to wander into other areas there is Joe Namath vs Joe Montana, Coke vs Pepsi, McDonalds vs Burger King, etc...
Anyways its good that both of these TV shows keep on going strong... American Dad is not so far behind, and next year McFarlane will unveil his newest creation and Family Guy spin off, The Cleveland Show, of course based on the show's most lovable african american Cleveland. I wouldnt doubt that after that maybe there is a spin off from Roger Smith (the alien of american dad)...
